Turkish culture is the Black Tea
Every country is known to have a special drink that they offer throughout the day. In Turkish culture is the Black Tea.
It is produced on the Eastern side of Black sea coast, Rize province, which has a mild climate with high precipitation and fertile soil.
Turkish tea is one of the most important part of Turkish culture.
People drink it throughout the day in Turkey (before meals, after meals, and in between meals). It tends to be more popular than Turkish coffee among the younger generations.
You will be offered a cup of tea, wherever you go in Turkey. It is a sign of friendship, kindness and hospitality.
You can drink it with sugar (sweet) or without, but not with milk because it’s not traditional.
You will be offered either strong (dark) or light, and you can choose based on your taste. My advise is to start with light.
It is served boiling hot, in the small tulip-shaped glasses which are usually hold by the rim. The tea is full-flavored and strong to be served in bigger cups or glasses. In Turkey, just like in other Middle Eastern countries, tea is usually the replacement of both alcohol and coffee as the social beverage.
In Turkish culture there is a special breakfast with fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, cheese, bread, and much more (I will dedicate a separate post just for this topic), and without tea, the breakfast wouldn’t be complete.
In other words, the special taste of Turkish tea will give you an unforgettable experience that you will carry in your heart for many years.
